Q: What security is provided for online transactions?
A: Neighborhood Youth Soccer League has contracted with Authorize.Net, a leading provider of payment gateway services, to provide a safe and secure connection for our E-Commerce Payment System. Authorize.net is a solution of Cybersource Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Visa. Authorize.Net utilizes industry-leading technologies and protocols, such as 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and they have validated compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). To confirm their compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, please see Visa's Global List of PCI DSS Validated Service Providers at www.visa.com/cisp.
Q: I don't understand all that techno-babble, what if it doesn't work?
A:The services provided by Authorize.net help ensure a secure transmission of transaction data, but even if something went wrong any liability for payments made via credit card over the internet would be limited to $50 under Federal law, just the same liability you would have for any unauthorized use of your card. Many major payment card brands, such as Visa, MasterCard, and Discover cards, provide a zero fraud liability coverage to help protect consumers from fraud and unauthorized purchases.* Accordingly, Neighborhood Youth Soccer League recommends the credit card alternative over electronic checks .
*Please consult with your card issuer to confirm the fraud liability coverage on your account and for additional details.
Q: Well, that sounds a little better, but I'm a pessimist. Is there any way I can protect myself further?
A: Additional action is not really necessary, but several card issuers are now offering "cyberized" credit cards. If you visit www.Capitalone.com, for example, you can obtain their "cyberized" card, which offers a 100% Fraud Protection guarantee. If you use a Capital One card online or offline, you will not be liable for any fraudulent or unauthorized charges. This policy applies to transactions anytime, anywhere.
Mastercard International (www.mastercard.com) offers similar benefits for its E-Wallet, which offers a Zero Liability guarantee, complete with "peace of mind that you won't have to pay for unauthorized purchases. On the Web. Or anywhere else. You're always secure." This generic solution is also integrated with several large card issuers (such as Citibank and Capital One), and you can easily register your existing card from one of these participating banks and obtain the Zero Liability coverage.
So, if despite the assurances of a robust, industry leading E-Commerce solution you remain uncomfortable, with a minimum of effort, you can takes steps to completely protect your card for use on the Internet.
You should review your account activity regularly to help detect unauthorized purchases promptly and take advantage of customized transaction alerts that your card issuer may offer. If you suspect fraudulent use of your card account, immediately notify the card issuer to help protect your billing rights.

Q: Does NYSL offer financial assistance?
A: NYSL offers a scholarship program. All scholarship requests must be in by February 1 for the spring season and by August 1 for the fall season. All approval/disapproval will be determined the first Tuesday of February for the spring season and the first Tuesday of August for the fall season. For more information please email office@nyslvb.org.
Q: How does NYSL manage the waiting list with web-based registration?
A: NYSL lets waiting list players register online and receive notice that they are on the waiting list. The player will have a player ID number when your registration is complete. If there is a spot available on a team, the parent/guardian will be contacted either via email or phone and given instructions on how to make payment.
Q: What uniform and equipment will my child need?
A: The uniform depends on your player's age. U4-U12 Rec players will get a t-shirt from the league (included with fee), but if the coach wants them numbered (usually more fun), then that is a few dollars per player. U14-U16 Rec players and U9-U19 Advanced players will need to purchase a uniform from the League (you can review the cost on the advanced FAQ's page). Each player needs soccer shorts, shin guards, and socks that cover the shin guards. Cleats are optional. Players should bring a ball and water to each practice as well.
Q: When will I be contacted?
A: The coach of your child's team will contact you either on the phone or via email about two weeks before the season starts.
Q: Who is my child's coach?
A: The League builds teams (assigns players to coaches) up until two weeks before the start of the season. Your coach should contact you then.
Q: Where and when will my child play/practice?
A: The League does not dictate practice times or locations, your player's coach does. The coach of your son's team will contact you either on the phone or via email and provide details on practices. Coaches get team information about two weeks prior to the season start date. Players in the U4 through U8 recreation age group will play games at Williams Farm Park - 5252 Learning Circle, Virginia Beach, VA. U9 through U12 recreation games will be played at Wyndamere Park - 4100-4127 Ware Neck Drive, Virginia Beach, VA
Q: I need to request a refund. How do I do it?
A: There are many situations that require customers to request refunds, but the League can process them more efficiently if you provide the following information when you email registrar@nyslvb.org, fax or mail your request:
- The name of the person who paid the registration.
- The names, ages, and sexes of your registrants.
- The method you used to register (i.e., in person, via web site, etc.).
- Did you get the confirmation (Player ID) number? If so, what was it?

- A precise definition of the problem (e.g., you were charged too much, you did not receive the coach discount, you want a partial refund, etc.).
- The proposed problem solution (e.g., do you want a refund? for how much?).
- NYSL charges a $20.00 administrative refund fee
