Beach FC Player Selected to Participate in Annual ODP International Festival...Virginia Beach, VA. Beach FC U16 Red (BFC Fire) player Eric Bird was recently selected to participate in U.S. Soccer's annual ODP International Festival, this year being held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Of the 38 players in the Region 1 '93 pool, only 18 were selected to participate in the Argentina event.
The 2009 International Festival ran from February 13 to February 22 and included numerous training sessions, a trip to observe an Argentinean pro match, and highly competitive matches between the Region 1 team and 3 premier Argentinean boys' teams. The trip was both a developmental and cultural experience for the athletes and yet another opportunity made available by the US Youth Soccer ODP. In 2009 US Youth Soccer ODP Boys and Girls teams will travel the globe including play in Argentina, Costa Rica, Brazil, Germany, Holland, Italy, South Africa, Spain and Russia.
Beach FC Executive Director, Steve Danbusky, who also serves as Eric's team coach was thrilled with this accomplishment. "Beach FC is very proud of Eric Bird's accomplishments at the Regional level", said Danbusky, "Playing in the Disney Showcase and then subsequently being selected to travel to Argentina to play against world class competition is quite an honor that Eric thoroughly deserves. We all wish him continued success as he represents Beach FC, VYSA, and Region I."
Initially created in 1977 as the US Youth Soccer Select Team Program, US Youth Soccer ODP was formed to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team could be selected for international competition. Players try out to qualify for the program's high-level training from carefully selected and licensed coaches through a series of trials at their local and State Association and then Regional levels. Those selected are exposed to the nation's best coaches, trainers and facilities.

U-14 Piranhas reach Semi-finalist at the Orange Classic...The Piranhas took the field against the home team, Weston SC Fury. After a slow start, the Piranhas seem to find their rhythm only to get caught on a counterattack and the Fury capitalized and when up by a goal. almost immediately, the Piranhas picked up the tempo and and started to take control of the game and scored the equalizer. Late in the second half Nickie Ivey received a pass in the box and had a quality finish. Piranhas 2 - Fury 1.

Next up was White Plains Elite. After a series of chances by White Plains Elite, the Piranhas would gain control of the game which resulted in a goal from Aari Robinson. Jessica Wilson had some nifty footwork to beat two defenders, then combined with Nikie Ivey to create the second goal for the Piranhas. The Piranhas third goal came when Virginia Hernandez served a beautiful cross to Wilson who would finish with her head. Alexandra Mack and Kara Mason were outstanding performers in the match. BFC 3 WPE 0.
The third game against Parkland Predators was very competitive and played at a furious pace. With both teams playing for first place in the group, scoring chances were few, due to outstanding team defending by both teams. The game ended in a 0-0 tie. The players enjoyed the intense competition and set their sites on the semi-final game.
In the semi-final game the Piranhas faced Albion Hurricanes FC 95 Blue. After the opening minutes of even play, Albion Hurricanes capitalize on a free kick which took an unexpected bounce and found its way in the goal. The Piranhas pushed forward looking for the equalizer but conceded another goal. The game would end with the Piranhas on the wrong end of a 2-0 result.
The Orange Classic provided the team with some memorable experiences both on and off the field, and ending the fall season with some outstanding individual and team play.

Beach FC U16 Piranhas Finalists at the 2008 Orange Classic Tournament in Weston, Florida...The U16 Piranhas played their best soccer of the year against tremendous competition in the top division of the Orange Classic Tournament in Weston, Florida. Every player worked extremely hard and played the most intense and consistently good soccer they have ever played in the four day tournament (Dec 27-December 30).

The Piranhas played flawless defense not allowing a goal until the finals. Hope Sadowski was outstanding in goal throughout the tournament and defenders Hannah Carlson, Samantha Phillips, Caity Burtch Mikayla Plansker, and Taylor Cave were truly outstanding. On the attack, the Piranhas scored 10 goals in five games and were led by Emory Camper, Holley Beasley, and Charlie Martin who each scored multiple goals. The Piranhas displayed a level of ferocity in both the semi-finals and finals that very few teams will ever match and their growth as a hard-nosed, hard working team was displyed magnificently throughout the tournament.
The Piranhas defeated the Sting SC West Royal team from Texas 3-0 in the first game. Piranhas dominated the game throughout against a very athletic and technically proficient team. In game 2, the Piranhas defeated the South Central Premier Cyber Rays from Connecticut 3 to 0. Again, the Piranhas dominated play in the second half and won the game soundly. In game 3, the Piranhas defeated the Lonestars 93G White team from Texas 1-0. The Piranhas dominated play, had 15+ shots on goal.
In the semi-finals the Piranhas defeated the CFC Arsenal team from Connecticut 1-0. The Piranhas did a great job late in the second half closing out the game by keeping the ball in the Arsenal end of the field for the last 8 minutes of the game. Emory Camper scored a brilliant goal to help the Piranhas reach the finals.
The final was the most intense and hard fought game the Piranhas have ever played. The play was physically tough as two exhausted teams refused to give in and played hard for the 80 minute game. The Piranhas fell behind 2-0 to the Challenge 93 South team from Texas and with 20 minutes left in the game all caution was thrown to the wind. The Piranhas began playing with 4 forwards, 4-5 midfielders, and 1-2 backs. The Piranhas delivered ball after ball into the box and finally Kara Natividad volleyed a ball in with 5 minutes left in the game. In stoppage time Holley Beasley scored on a throw-in from Emory Camper. The Piranhas had fought back from a two goal deficit against a very disciplined and well coached team in the final 10 minutes of the game. The game went immediately to penalty kicks and the Piranhas were defeated in the final 3-2 on penalty kicks.
The team grew as a group during this tournament. They learned that hard work, never giving up, and standing together as a group will lead to success on and off the soccer field.

In attendance will be 160 invitation-only players from around the country. The camp will be a scramble format with functional training, Small-Sided Games, street soccer, guest speakers and a mini round-robin tournament on the final day. The developmental camp focuses on Small-Sided Games so that the players are highlighted as individuals.
"US Youth Soccer ODP realizes the importance of laying the groundwork for tactical and technical development of our young players," said John Ellinger, US Youth Soccer Technical Director. "It is important that the experience for the players be positive and especially in these developmental camp situations. What our players learn in this initial set up can set the tone for their future developmental progress."
Initially created in 1977 as the US Youth Soccer Select Team Program, US Youth Soccer ODP was formed to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team could be selected for international competition. The girls program was added in 1985. Players try out to qualify for the program's high-level training from carefully selected and licensed coaches through a series of trials at their local, State Association and then Regional levels. Those selected are exposed to the nation's best coaches, trainers and facilities.
